Biography

Dr. Subramaniam is professor in KU's Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering and Director of the Center for Environmentally Beneficial Catalysis (CEBC). He is also the founder of CritiTech, a drug development company based on technology developed at the university under the supervision of Dr. Subramaniam that spun out of KU in 1997.

Dr. Subramaniam's research interests are in catalysis and reaction engineering for resource-efficient chemicals/fuels production, and exploiting supercritical and gas-expanded liquids in crystallization. In particular, his research harnesses the pressure-tunable physicochemical properties of unconventional solvents such as supercritical fluids and gas-expanded liquids in multiphase catalysis to develop resource-efficient technologies with reduced environmental footprint. He co-founded the CEBC with Dr. Daryle Busch in 2003 with a grant from the prestigious National Science Foundation Engineering Research Centers (NSF-ERC) program.

He is a Fellow in the Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Chemical Society (ACS), and the National Academy of Inventors. He holds 27 patents, and over his 30 year career, Dr. Subramaniam has collaborated with more than two dozen leading chemical companies, including Archer Daniels Midland, DuPont and Procter & Gamble.
