Biography

Dr. Han joined KU's Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering in 2004. In addition to his position at KU, he also is an instructor for the National Highway Institute (NHI). He has served as president of the International Association of Chinese Infrastructure Professionals, chair of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Geo-Institute Soil Improvement Committee, council member of the International Geosynthetics Society, associate editor for the ASCE Journal of Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering and the ASCE Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, and as an editorial board member for 10 other international journals. 

His research focuses on geosynthetics, ground improvement, pile foundations, buried structures, and roadways. Dr. Han is the sole author of the book "Principles and Practice of Ground Improvement," and has published more than 350 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. He is a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and received the Martin S Kapp Foundation Engineering Award.
