Biography —
Dr. Nagel joined KU in 1993 and has appointments in several departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She served as Chair of the Department of Anthropology from 2017-2019 and Interim Chair of the Department of Sociology from 2024-2025.
She is a political and cultural sociologist. Her work focuses on ethnicities, genders and sexualities in the United States and in the global system, including American Indian activism, militarization of science and global climate change.
Dr. Nagel has served as principal investigator on a number of grants, including a $2.6 million NSF grant and a $3.0 million NSF grant. Dr. Nagel's books include "Gender and Climate Change: Impacts, Science, Policy," "Sociological Perspectives on Global Climate Change" and "Race, Ethnicity, and Sexuality: Intimate Intersections, Forbidden Frontiers."
She is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and received KU's Leading Light Award in 2012.
