Biography

Dr. Nagel is a political and cultural sociologist. Her work focuses on ethnicities, genders and sexualities in the United States and in the global system, including American Indian activism, militarization of science and global climate change. Dr. Nagel joined KU in 1993 and has appointments in several departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She served as Chair of the Department of Anthropology from 2017-2019 and Interim Chair of the Department of Sociology from 2024-2025.

She has served as principal investigator on several grants, including a $2.6 million NSF grant and a $3.0 million NSF grant. Honors include being named a American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow in 2020 and receiving KU's Leading Light Award in 2012. Dr. Nagel's books include "Gender and Climate Change: Impacts, Science, Policy," "Sociological Perspectives on Global Climate Change" and "Race, Ethnicity, and Sexuality: Intimate Intersections, Forbidden Frontiers."
