Biography

Prof. Bhala joined the University of Kansas School of Law in 2003 from George Washington University. He previously taught at William & Mary, and worked as an attorney for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He has been a visiting professor at Duke University, University of Michigan, La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia, Tel Aviv University, and the University of Auckland in New Zealand. 

One of the world’s top-most scholars and teachers in international trade law, Prof. Bhala has worked in 29 countries. He is a member of the London-based International Bar Association (IBA), Tokyo-based Inter Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), England's Royal Society for Asian Affairs, Council on Foreign Relations and the American Law Institute. The Indian Society of International Law conferred on him life membership. 

Prof. Bhala received a Letter of Commendation for Service at United Nations from the U.S. State Department, and at KU he has received the Woodyard International Educator Award, the Moreau Award, and the Kemper Award for Teaching Excellence.
