Biography —
Dr. Fuller joined KU in 2017 from the University of Tulsa where he was Chapman Professor of English and Chair of the English Department. Previously, he was professor and Chair of the Humanities Division at Drury University, where he also served as Director of the University Honors Program.
Dr. Fuller's research interests include 19-century U. S. literature and culture, transcendentalism, science and literature, African American literature, and American Studies. He has received grant funding from the Andrew W Mellon Foundation and the National Endowment for Humanities. His books include "The Book That Changed America: How Darwin’s Theory of Evolution Ignited a Nation" and "Emerson’s Ghosts: Literature, Politics, and the Making of Americanists."
He was a 2014-2015 Guggenheim Fellow, and received a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowship. He has served as Director of the NEH Summer Institute for Teachers (Wilson’s Creek Battlefield) and received the Christian Gauss Award from the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
