Biography —
Dr. Warrior joined KU in 2016 and has a dual appointment in the Department of English and Department of American Studies. He previously held faculty positions at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, the University of Oklahoma and Stanford University. He is a member of the Osage Nation and belongs to the Grayhorse District. His academic and research areas of interest include Indigenous studies, Native American literary studies and Indigenous social movements.
His books include "Like a Hurricane: The Indian Movement from Alcatraz to Wounded Knee," co-written with Paul Chaat Smith; "Tribal Secrets: Recovering American Indian Intellectual Traditions;" "Reasoning Together: The Native Critics Collective;" and "The World of Indigenous North America." He also has written or co-written hundreds of journal articles, book chapters and media articles, and has been a frequent lecturer, keynote and invited presenter at conferences and events throughout the United States. He also served as a creative consultant on We Shall Remain: Episode Five (Wounded Knee), produced for PBS’s American Experience.
Dr. Warrior has served as president of the American Studies Association and founding president of the Native American and Indigenous Studies Association. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2018.
